Visual Design

From how it looks to how it works.

I started in visual design. For five years, the work was mostly about craft — composition, type, colour, making things look considered. I was good at the part of design you can see.

What changed was noticing how often that wasn't the problem. A screen could be well-made and still confuse people. A layout could be clean and still lead someone to the wrong thing. The interesting failures weren't visual — they were structural, sitting behind the interface where nobody was looking.

So I moved toward that. For the past six years I've worked in UX/UI and product design — across healthcare, education, and AI products — which mostly means asking what people are actually trying to do, and where the product gets in the way.

That shift also showed me what I’d been missing. In many startup environments, research was the first thing cut when timelines tightened. Over time, I learned to build research into the way I work rather than waiting for a project to make room for it.

Let's work together.

I'm currently open to full-time roles. If you're building something complex that needs to become clearer, I'd be happy to talk.
